Morning Thoughts

This morning at Caribou Coffee, sitting on the patio
and enjoying the cool and breezy morning, I was
reading a book that challenged me to actually take
time to listen. To put the book down, sit back, rest
and listen to the presence of God. At first my mind
was swimming with all the different activities
planned today, the different tasks to accomplish, and
even the new rooms and construction. The author
challenged me to simply sit, simply commune with God,
to breathe and live God.
What a thought. How often do I myself get busy with the work of ministry, the tasks of preparation, the need to stay on top of current youth trends, and other such busying activities. I know I personally struggle with not taking the time to rest. I let myself get so busy and so consumed by "my stuff" that I don't make time to simply be still. The author writes, "To rest in God is an invitation to enter into a deep relationship with God. It's an invitation to set aside our agendas and spiritual strivings and simply sit silently, vulnerable to God's presence within and around us."
Think about a normal relationship with someone, it involves things like talking, listening, and even working together. But "any long-term relationship also involves moments of simply resting in the presence of another." Psalm 46:10 tells us, "Be still, and know that I am God." This is it, the call is simply and yet we, no I, don't make the time to do just that.
So my challenge to the reader, just as I try, to take a moment today to direct your attention toward God. Simply turn your awareness to the presence of God within all you see and hear around you. Just for a few moments allow yourself to open up to the presence of our divine and heavenly Father.
